I know I’m late to the game since millions of people have already cut the cord to cable companies and their outrageous fees. Right now I have only basic channels in my plan and a strong high speed wifi plan, and my monthly bill is close to $160! There were no alternatives to Wifi providers since I live in a condo and sole wifi plans were priced to give you the incentive to couple cable. I finally got notification that a 5G company I use as my cell phone provider has finally become available where I live! That set into motion the exploration of my options. I rarely watch TV anyway and like many people mainly stream, so also subscribe to several services that provide content. I did want to have access to local news as well as my beloved PBS. There re paid plans tht would bundle those options but I wanted to explore long term savings. I almost ordered other antenna options at a much lower cost, but then stumbled across this antenna and raised an eyebrow since it said it supported 4k. A website was noted that listed what stations should be available in my area. Unfortunately, those referred sites seem to be dead ends with no active content. I took a leap of faith anyway and ordered this unit. On arrival I was astounded at how HUGE it is. It is a monster. No matter, i soldiered on. Setup is incredibly simple. Plug into the appropriate plugs, go to settings in my LG TV and begin a scan. I positioned the huge antenna at several places and frankly,it seemed to operate similarly in several locations including directly facing a window. I was able to access around 45 channels. there is a feature where you can group channels into favorite groups and those are what show up when you bring up the channel menu. Very nice. You are provided with a schedue that seems to extend one week forward for those channels. Also unexpected. You can further select shows you want to be reminded of as a one off off as they are regularly scheduled and the TV will have a message appear a minute before those shows come on and will automatically open those up for you. As for the picture quality, I was very impressed for the most part. The channels I selected as favorites, primarily the 3 networks as well as numerous NPR channels were especially clear and chrisp. If you click on the banner in the upper right corner of the screen of a channel/show, it will give you the details of the signal. None indicated 4k. Perhaps I’m not understanding how that works. But the picture seemed equal to its cable counterpart. My next step is to do a trial of the 5k offer, keeping my cable active in cast things arent satisfactory and I want to go back. At least I can opt for a wifi only plan if they offer me a deal not to switch, so we’ll see. I have to say, though, that the basic channels I have with cable were still so numerous and herd to isolate that I didn’t watch any of them anyway. Having everything concise and approachable with the antenna is so much nicer. I’m not sure the 4k marketing is being of any added benefit so maybe the added expense wasn’t necessary. All things considered, was it a good purchase? Yes indeed. If I go to the 5G wifi and am satisfied, I will save in total over $100 a month for basically the same functionality I have now. That’s not life changing, but I have been so outraged at my cable TV provider being a monopoly and constantly raising their prices over time, I feel it will be a moral victory when I can make that “please disconnect” call.
